Brooklyn NY All-On-4 Dental Implants

Time passes, we age, and teeth start falling out. It might be hard to believe, but tooth loss becomes increasingly frequent among adults. And until recently, there was no permanent solution to a missing tooth. But now increasingly more people are choosing a full mouth dental implant restoration.

If a single tooth is missing, it can be replaced by a single implant or crown. But if you want the complete dental arch to be preserved, full mouth dental implants might be needed. In your jawbone, dental implants are surgically inserted and serve as the root of your missing tooth. The metal root is formed from alloys of copper or titanium. In the socket of the missing tooth, the implant functions like a screw and is fixed. For complete arch reconstruction, the All-on-4" technique is an excellent option. Several decades ago the treatment was devised. Its efficacy has been proven through comprehensive clinical studies. To sustain a complete arch prosthesis, traditional dental implant treatment needs 6 to 10 implants. To protect an entire arch of teeth, All-on-Four uses only four optimally positioned dental implants.

Why Choose All-on-Four?

All-on-Four implants are a permanent tooth replacement treatment in which metal roots are placed over your gums. This procedure is far more comfortable than conventional dentures. Conventional dentures can move and slip easily because of the ever-changing shape of your jawbone.

The appearance of all 4 dental implants is also more aesthetically pleasing. Traditional dentures have a plastic look that contrasts with your normal teeth and may look fake. These plastic-based dentures may cause significant damage to your gums. However, all-on-four treatments have an aesthetically pleasing and seamless look with minimal gum damage.

Sometimes, if there isn't enough bone for the implant screw to attach to for tooth replacement bone grafting is required. Grafting bone is a procedure that treats bone loss in the jaw by inserting transplanted bone to repair and rebuild and prepare the bone for implant retention.

All-on-Four is a more affordable solution in getting full mouth dental implants and is a comfortable and attractive replacement for your missing teeth.

What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of All-on-Four?

Advantages of All-on-Four

  • Improves your appearance and confidence. These tooth implants not only feel like your natural teeth but also fit in seamlessly! You won’t even be able to tell it’s an implant!
  • Improves your speech by helping you produce words and sounds properly, especially those made when the tongue touches the teeth.
  • More comfortable than removable dentures because they are permanent implants placed in your gums.
  • Gives you a sense of relief while you’re eating. You will not have to worry about sliding your dentures while eating your favorite food.
  • Improves your oral health. All-on-4 implants procedure has little effect on your other teeth. This is because nearby teeth don’t have to act as support to your implant dentures and are left intact.
  • Durablility. These denture implants are long lasting and can last a lifetime if cared for properly.
  • Convenient and eliminates the discomfort of reattaching and removing conventional dentures.

Disadvantages of All-on-Four

  • Not all patients are suitable for this procedure.Your implant dentist has a lot of factors to consider before proceeding with the operation.
  • It takes time for you to feel comfortable with the denture implants. You may feel uncomfortable for months, depending on how long your gums will recover.
  • It is costly to get full mouth dental implants. Teeth implants are considered a cosmetic procedure and have a complex process. Not all dentists are skilled to do these, so consequently you pay for a skilled implant dentist.

What is the Procedure for All-on-Four?

A complete reconstruction of the upper or lower arch is an all-on-four dental implant. This dental full mouth looks like your natural teeth and is a permanent alternative to a tooth that has been lost. The following procedures in the All-on-Four" protocol are involved:

  1. Consultation and CT Scan: Your implant dentist will check your teeth, gums, and test your oral health here at Kipnis Dental. Medical and dental history may also be required. After your consultation, a special kind of x-ray (Cone Beam CT scan) of your teeth is taken. It gives our implant dentists detailed images and allows them to see if your jaw bone is eligible for an all on 4 implants. To be eligible for the “All-On-Four” implant, you must have good bone density especially in the front of your mouth.
  2. Implant Treatment Plan: Once the images from the CT scan or panoramic scan are taken, our dentists begin to plan for the surgery. We alter the scan images based on the outcome - durable and aesthetically-pleasing implants. Then, the implant dentist makes a guide for placing the teeth implants.
  3. Placement and Fitting: To ensure your dental implants are placed correctly, replication of the surgical guide is to be followed accurately. Here at Kipnis Dental, the implant dentists follow the treatment plan precisely. After placing the implants, prosthetic teeth are placed to aid the teeth implants during healing and serve as your temporary teeth until the permanent tooth is made. Once your dental implants are fully healed, you will return to the dentist for your permanent tooth implementation.

How to clean All on 4 Dental Implants

Food particles can easily get trapped around the gums of dental implants or bridges. That’s why it’s essential to brush and floss your teeth regularly. An antibacterial mouthwash is also recommended. Make sure you regularly visit our implant dentists after your procedure as well!

Brush your teeth daily at least twice a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Soft bristles are less likely to damage your gums. Medium or hard bristles remove tartar and plaque. Electric toothbrushes inhibit and remove bacteria from your teeth and are more effective than manual toothbrushes because of the high number of brush strokes they generate. Whether you choose an electric or manual toothbrush, make sure it has soft bristles.

You may use a water flosser or also known as a dental water jet or oral irrigator. This tool removes bacteria in pocket depths of your tooth. Many implant dentists recommend water flossers over dental floss because some brands of dental floss can shred particles that may infect the gum surrounding a tooth implant.

Floss your teeth daily with unwaxed tape or implant-specific floss. You are advised to floss your teeth after brushing and reach the area between the dental implants. This removes toothpaste residue from your mouth and allows you to distribute the fluoride around the implant preventing bacteria from growing.

Avoid all things that can damage your teeth implants. Using abrasive oral cleaning products such as hard-bristled toothbrushes, baking soda, or strong cleaners can permanently damage your oral dentures. Avoid oral products that contain bleach and chlorine- these can weaken, discolor, and corrode the metal parts of dental implants. Avoid biting hard things or food and grinding which may damage your teeth dentures.
