What is the Procedure for All-on-Six?

The all-on-six dental implant is a complete restoration of all your missing teeth. First, to support the dental prosthetics six dental implants are placed over your jaw bone. Four of the implants are placed in front of the jaw and the other 2 implants are placed at an angle, towards the back of the jaw.

  1. Preparation: A Cone Beam CT scan is used to give our implant dentist detailed images. They will examine the image and decide if you are eligible to proceed with the implant.
  2. Implant Treatment Plan: Results from your CT scan are used by your dentist to plan for the surgery. Our dentists will determine both a model and the location and orientation of your implants using the scan. The dentist will also evaluate your jawbone for bone loss or if bone grafting will be necessary. If so, they will give time for your bones to heal.
  3. Placement and Fitting: At Kipnis Dental, our dentists place your teeth implants over the gums according to the treatment plan. In this procedure, you are put under anesthesia, and holes are drilled to secure the abutments. After the implants are placed the dentist inserts temporary prosthetics which will help the teeth implants during the healing process and serve as your temporary teeth until the permanent denture is ready. Afterward, your implants need time to heal. Once healed, your dentist will recommend you to return for your permanent teeth implants.

How to clean all on 6 dental implants

The steps for cleaning all-on-6 dental implants are the same as for other dental treatments, with several important considerations. Implant failure is usually caused by a lack of maintenance of your tooth health. You must make sure your teeth are clean and healthy and avoid any build up of plaque or bacteria. The following are effective oral hygiene tips:

Brush your teeth daily at least twice a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Soft bristles are less likely to damage your gums. Medium or hard bristles remove tartar and plaque. Electric toothbrushes inhibit and remove bacteria from your teeth and are more effective than manual toothbrushes because of the high number of brush strokes they generate. Whether you choose an electric or manual toothbrush, make sure it has soft bristles.

You may use a water flosser or also known as a dental water jet or oral irrigator. This tool removes bacteria in pocket depths of your tooth. Many implant dentists recommend water flossers over dental floss because some brands of dental floss can shred particles that may infect the gum surrounding a tooth implant.

Floss your teeth daily with unwaxed tape or implant-specific floss. You are advised to floss your teeth after brushing and reach the area between the dental implants. This removes toothpaste residue from your mouth and allows you to distribute the fluoride around the implant preventing bacteria from growing.

Avoid all things that can damage your teeth implants. Using abrasive oral cleaning products such as hard-bristled toothbrushes, baking soda, or strong cleaners can permanently damage your oral dentures. Avoid oral products that contain bleach and chlorine- these can weaken, discolor, and corrode the metal parts of dental implants. Avoid biting hard things or food and grinding which may damage your teeth dentures.

Follow your dentists’ advice in taking good care of your all on 6 implants and remember to come to all checkups with your dentist.

What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of All-on-Six?

Advantages of All-on-Six

  • The procedure is fast and painless. Dentists will give sedatives or anesthesia before the surgery. The operation will only take place for a few hours, so there is no need for you to spend a lot of time on the chair.
  • These dental implants improve your appearance and confidence. The porcelain crowns attached to the implant dentures look just like your original teeth!
  • These teeth implants are placed permanently in your jaw, and free you from the hassle of removable dentures. These permanent implants will aid your eating, chewing, and speech.
  • This is a lifelong treatment if cared well and is affordable compared to other teeth restoration procedures.

Disadvantages of All-on-Six

  • To be eligible for the procedure your jaw must be healthy with no missing bones. Otherwise bone grafting may be needed - incurring additional cost and time to your treatment.
  • The healing process for this procedure could last longer than the all-on-4 procedure because it requires more implants than the all-on-4, meaning more holes drilled on the surface of your gums. This means a longer healing time and a higher price.
  • The cost. All on 6 implants cost between $24,000 — $31,000 per jaw. This cost covers all implant procedures, including the one beam CT scan, the temporary teeth implants, and the permanent one

Why Choose Full Mouth Dental Implants?

Full mouth dental implants are permanent dentures that replace all of your missing teeth. This procedure provides several advantages over other teeth replacement options. Full teeth implants are more aesthetic, comfortable and stable than traditional dentures, allowing you to have more natural chewing and biting capacity. Also, these denture implants are easier to maintain than traditional dentures.

Since you’re replacing all your teeth, you will have a uniform color and shape and have no gaps. So, your new dental implants will look just like natural teeth. They also look more aesthetic as compared to conventional dentures.

Full mouth dental implants are more convenient to use rather than putting adhesive for your traditional dentures. Your jawbone will integrate with the tooth implants keeping your bones healthy.

Insurance and Cost of all on 6 implants procedure

The cost of implant procedures is usually high. So at Kipnis Dental we often get the question of whether insuracne covers the costs of dental implants. The answer of course depends on your insurance provider. The cost of implants is hefty - far outweighing the cost of most other dental procedures. Nowadays, most insurance providers don’t cover this expensive procedure but there are some - like Guardian - that can reimburse up to 50% of the cost. But, we suggest you contact your insurance provider for confirmation.
